Adventist Mission

Picture Story: Nigeria

Meet Mrs. Adewale. She lives with her family in Abeokuta, the largest city of Ogun State in southwest Nigeria. She’s making pounded yam, a popular staple food in West Africa. The texture of the starchy substance falls somewhere between mashed potatoes and bread dough.

Global Mission pioneers Taiwo, left, and Onifade, center, have been working in Abeokuta for four months. There was a small group of Adventist believers when they arrived, and they’ve been helping the congregation grow. Each day they visit people to ask about their needs, pray with them, and if possible, study the Bible together.

“There is such great need in this city,” says Onifade. “The people don’t have enough food and they suffer from disease. Many are unemployed and some don’t even have a house to live in. We don’t have many resources, but we do what we can to help meet the people’s physical and spiritual needs. We want them to know that we love them.”

Please pray that the Holy Spirit will be poured out upon the people and that their hearts will be opened to Jesus. We need His grace and wisdom to reach this city for Him.
